L. Dewey Chase

Owner

A lifelong native of Chamberlain, Dewey and his wife Bea sold the Driftwood Shops in 1988. He began doing carpentry as a one-man gang. After 4 years, being a “people person”, Dewey was tired of talking to 2×4’s, and the Real Estate Commission was pressing him to become active as he had an license inactive for over 10 years. The time seemed right to give birth to L. Dewey Chase Real Estate.

Dewey began with an office and small waiting area. His goal was to be a one-man office with 12 listings and 12 sales per year. Replacing each sale with a new listing – all on the Pemaquid Peninsula. As a selectman for Bristol, Dewey was familiar with most properties and their assessed values. He was fortunate to have a team of Rick Salewski, attorney, Charlie Ault, banker, Andy Noyes, appraiser, and Paul Garber, building inspector. A great team and together they have brought many wonderful folks to our little part of the world.

Growth is inevitable and this one-man show has blossomed into L. Dewey Chase Real Estate with Susan Ropes; broker, a native, who feels privileged to share our little paradise with the rest of the world.

I grew up in an amazing 14-room house in Round Pond filled with antiques and “early attic” from our local auction and unwanted items left behind by the previous owners. My bedroom had a view of the harbor, stonewalled fields and the woods beyond. Then I thought leaving home was going to New Harbor where I had my first summer job, as a waitress in The Ship’s Lantern Restaurant, presently the home of L. Dewey Chase Real Estate.

After Westbrook College I traveled more extensively and purchased and sold homes in all four corners of the country, all invaluable experiences; however, my incredible childhood is what ultimately and intimately inspired my appreciation for home and family. As a broker, I feel privileged to have this opportunity to bring buyers and sellers together in their own pursuits of home.

Leslie grew up in Pemaquid and has always enjoyed the quality of life the Mid-Coast offers. She started her working career hauling lobster traps by hand on John’s Bay.

She is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and studied abroad in Oxford, England. Since 1994, Leslie has been selling the Mid-Coast to locals and visitors who share the same love for this special part of Maine.

Leslie is president of Bolster Builders, Inc. a building company that specializes in custom homes on the Coast of Maine. Both professions are complimented by her attention to detail, organizational skills and local knowledge.

She has three grown children and enjoys traveling with family and friends, reading and boating on our beautiful waters! She feels fortunate to know and work with the people that call Bristol home and is ready to welcome our next neighbor.

Having moved coast to coast, to Europe, the Middle East, back and forth, initially with the military and later through corporate moves, finding a place to call ‘home’ wherever we landed gave me the experiences of working with so many dedicated and caring real estate professionals. My career path took various turns in publishing, marketing, and one position as Director of Operations for a real estate firm with multiple offices.

Moving to Maine 20 years ago to this vibrant area finalized our wanderlust —— this is home. I followed a personal dream of owning an antique shop and opened the Nesting Place. While operating the business for 10 years and meeting so many people who were summer residents or vacationing families, the conversation frequently turned to real estate. I realized I missed the ‘hunt’ for homes – finding the right places for others moving to our area or assisting those that live here in making their transitions go as smoothly as possible.

I throughly enjoy being part of our communities here, serving on the board of the Bristol Area Library, the Bristol Lions Club, and a past board member of the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce. Welcome to Maine!
